Piggy Paint Nail Polish Review and Giveaway

The Winner is:

I am a follower

My Brother-in-law and his family are here visiting for Nico’s second birthday and whenever they are here my Sister-in-law and I try to get a ‘spa’ day in. This year we are going for pedicures, and a few other treats, at our favorite day spa (The Pearl Spa). We both really enjoy getting pedicures and they give great ones, they take about an hour and they also give you a mini leg massage. The bad part is that my niece, who is 4, gets a little sad that she can’t get a pedicure too. But this year we have that problem solved!

Recently I received a bottle of Piggy Paint “Natural as Mud” nail polish and nail polish remover. It is water based, non-toxic, non-flammable and odorless. And as you all know, I love an American Made product and Piggy Paint is proudly made in the USA! And how fantastic is this? It is free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate and acetone. The remover is also non-toxic and safe to use. They sent me “Tea Party for Two” which was perfect because when I decided to try the polish out, both boys wanted me to do their toes too! I didn’t mind doing so because it is a dark blue metallic color and totally safe to use on my precious boys. Not sure Grandpa (or Daddy for that matter) really liked the idea of boys with blue toes, but the kids loved it. And as soon as my niece saw the color she wanted her toenails painted too. We are currently a house full of blue toes!

Thistle Delight Soap or Sugar Scrub Giveaway

The Winner is:

I love the Black Amethyst Handmade Soap.

I love a good bath product. It is probably one of my biggest weaknesses now. I guess it is because I no longer really get into makeup or dress clothes since I’m no longer working outside the house. I feel like I can pamper and indulge myself by using really nice bath products.

Since starting the Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) protocol I have really tried to “green” our personal hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, lotions, soaps and deodorants in an effort to remove toxins from the whole family. It is amazing the amount of junk that is in commercial bath products.

But Thistle Delight Soapworks makes all of their products by hand using natural products. I received the Luscious Whipped Sugar Scrub in Juicy Grapefruit. What really appeals to me with this sugar scrub is the fact that is it more than just almond oil over-saturated with sugar crystals, like most mass produced scrubs. Instead, it is actually more like an exfoliating butter. It contains Shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil. This rich combination keeps your skin very soft while the sugar gently scrubs your skin. And it is especially refreshing to be able to pronounce all the ingredients, isn’t it? Thistle Delight offers the sugar scrubs in five (5) intoxicating and hydrating scents such as Pineapple Sorbet, Chamomile Pear, Tahitian Coconut, Cucumber Breeze and Juicy Grapefruit.

I also received a bar of handmade soap in Grapefruit too. I decided to use it in our downstairs powder room. It is quite pretty; all cream and crimson swirls. But what I really like about it is the unforeseen effect it had on Matthew and his desire to wash his hands after using the bathroom. It was always a chore to get him to wash his hands and to use the liquid soap, but with the beautiful bar of soap he always wants to wash his hands. And he is doing it completely unprompted and without help. Who knew all we needed was some Thistle Delight Soap to bring out the clean fiend in him? Another nice aspect of this sumptuous soap is the fat that it comes with minimal wrappings which are recyclable! How much better can this soap get?

What I find particularly nice about Thistle Delight Soap is the fact that it does not seem to dry my hands like other soaps. Thistle Delight does not strip out the naturally occurring glycerin from their soaps, which protects your skin, unlike commercial soaps. And just like their sugar scrubs, they offer some sumptuous scents for their bar soap. They have a beautiful swirled soap of Strawberry/Lime Sherbet, a creamy Elegant White Roses, pale green Eucalyptus and Spearmint, and an extremely interesting Scottish Pride soap which is the royal blue and white of the St. Andrews flag. Sandra, the heart and soul behind Thistle Delight Soapworks, was born and bred in Scotland. She has been making her soap for at least seven (7) years and has never tested her products on animals. Her products are just beautiful.

Honey Balsamic Glaze

Here is a nice, easy recipe for a glaze/barbecue sauce which is excellent on chicken, fish and pork, and best of all it is GFCF.

Honey Balsamic Glaze
1/2 Cup Honey
1/2 Cup Balsamic Vinegar
1 Cup of Ketchup
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary (I did substitute dried)
1 tsp finely grated lemon zest (I didn’t have it so I omitted it and it was still wonderful)
1 tsp pepper

Place vinegar and honey in saucepan and set over med-high heat, bring to a boil. Simmer 5 minutes.

Stir in ketchup, garlic, oil and rosemary; reduce heat to med-low and simmer for 2 minutes.

Stir in lemon zest and pepper.

Cool completely. Glaze will keep in fridge, covered for up to 1 week.

Makes 1.5 cups.
