Camden Cakes: nice people, even nicer cupcakes!

Hi Friends. I know you have heard me talk about this person and this company before, but I really needed to give them another shout out today. The person is Tracy and the company is Camden Cakes. Tracy is the owner and baker of Camden Cakes, an Ellicott City, Maryland bakery that does nothing but gluten free and casein free baked goods! I have used Camden Cakes before, for Matthew’s school birthday party to ensure that everyone had a cupcake they could eat. But I was really surprised yesterday when I went to Matthew’s school party and his teacher gave me a 1/2 dozen Camden Cakes vanilla cupcakes. Matthew’s teacher had ordered cupcakes from Tracy so she could provide allergy free cupcakes for their end-of-school-year party. As a Thank You to me for recommending Camden Cakes to his teacher, Tracy sent me the 1/2 dozen. I thought that was so nice, so I called Tracy to thank her for her thoughfulness and to just catch up. She ended up telling me she had some other cupcakes she couldn’t use and wanted to know if I wanted them. So I said sure, and popped over to pick them up. She and I talked for close to 1.5 hours! Tracy is such an interesting lady. She started Camden Cakes after her sister suggested that she try making a business out of GFCF cakes. Her nephew, Camden, is on the autism spectrum and is on the GFCF diet, with great success.

If you live in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area and you need a GFCF cake (or one that handles other allergies too – she can make soy free, egg free, corn free, nut free, etc) please give Tracy at Camden Cakes a call. Tell her I sent you and get to meet this neat lady and her very yummy cakes.

Indie Kidz T-shirt Review and Giveaway

The Winner of the Indie Kidz T-shirt is:

Marie said… 40 @ June 29, 2009 4:15 PM

I would pick the We Are the Robots shirt for my son who is an Indie Kidz because he is certainly unique and one of a kind 🙂

Indie films. Indie music. Now Indie Kidz! What could be better than independent kids? Or IndieKidz . Indie Kidz make eco-friendly tees for babies, toddlers, kids and even adults who like to rock and show their independent spirit, all while being green and natural. Really, what is better than that? All Indie Kidz inks are free of PVC, lead and phthalates! A DAN! lovers dream. And they use 100% organic cotton and bamboo/cotton shirts made in Canada and the USA. (Go Team North America – I really love the idea of using products made in the USA, it supports our local workers.)

Lara, President (Prez for short) of Indi Kidz, sent us the Bass Hook for Bass and the We Are the Robots Tees for Nico and Matthew, both in black and both in the bamboo/cotton blend. As I’ve said before, I really think Nico is going to be a rocker and Matthew has been pretending to be a robot lately, so I thougth they were really appropriate. She told me that the bamboo/cotton blend was super soft and she was correct. Even one of my therapists told me that she couldn’t believe how soft Matthew’s shirt was. She also told me that I always dress the boys in such cute T-shirts. Thanks Indie Kidz.

The Prez is one very impressive woman and all around cool chick. She grew up in a rock ‘n roll household with a yogi mom and a punk rocker dad. She was, and is, a tomboy and loves a good black T-shirt, saying it can take you almost anywhere. And as a woman after my own heart, she graduated from Homeopathic College and Emily Carr College of Art and Design. Color me envious. What an awesome and diverse lady.

I think I would like The Mothers of Invention Tee for myself. I totally love those little Russian Dolls. Oh, don’t forget to take a look at the back of the tees, each one has a cool little tagline.

WIN IT!

Would you like to win one of these cool tees for your child? Well, now you can. Lara is offering one Indie Kidz T-shirt to the winner of this contest. Simply go to Indie Kidz and take a look around. Win a FalldownTree Art Print!

The Winner of the Falldown Tree Art Print is

jetta1975 said… 81 @ July 2, 2009 3:42 PM

I went to his blog and posted a comment on the turtle with the rubix cube.

When I was younger I almost bought an Andy Warhol painting. It is because I really do enjoy art. And although I was a Mathematics major in college most of my free electives were art classes. I took a pottery class, a basic design class, a print making class and even a floral design class. I just enjoy art. So that may be why I’m so drawn to some of the very talented artists out there. I found Adam of falldowntree. His artwork is simply delightful. There really isn’t any other word for it. I instantly fell in love with the characters of his prints. As Adam says in his profile, he likes to draw, and I like to look at his work. There is a retro quality to his work, but I am also reminded of Disney and Pixar animated movies when I view his shop. One of my favorite series he has is the My New Robot series. He has at least 4 prints in this series but it will probably continue to grow. He also has a To The Moon series, a Train, Train Go Away series and a Cook A Doodle Doo series based on a story by the same name.

Adam sent me the Bird Band 10 x 10 print on White Linen Textured card stock with a matte finish. Immediately it reminded me of the Country Bear Jamboree in Disney World. It features 6 birds singing and playing instruments in their woods. There is a simple, almost country charm to it, without looking out of place in a more modern home. I can’t wait to frame it and hang it in one of the boy’s rooms.

BUY IT!

Go visit Falldowntree and buy one of his prints for yourself or your child.

WIN IT! – mandatory entry

Adam has also generously offered one print of choice to the winner of this giveaway. To enter, simply hop over to Falldowntree and take a look at his other prints.
