Doc McStuffins Time for Your Checkup DVD Review

Disclosure: I received a copy of this DVD to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

doc mcstuffins

I like Doc McStuffins. I think it is a super cute show for kids, but the real measure is if the boys will watch it. As soon as my 5 (almost 6) year old saw it he wanted to put it in the DVD player. I thought that was a good sign. Our youngest, Lorenzo, wanted to watch too. But the most telling of all was that it eventually even drew Matthew in. He preferred to read for a while but eventually he flopped down on the floor and watched for a while.

If you have never seen Doc McStuffins the story revolves around Doc, a young girl that doctors her stuffed animals and toys that come alive when she is alone and wearing her magical stethoscope. Usually there is an overarching “human” story line that echos the one played out by the toys. Doc and her friends cover things like eating properly, getting enough sleep and annual checkups. Usually Doc, whose Mother is also a doctor, runs the toy through a typical check up to see if she can figure out what is wrong with the toy. In the end Doc and the toys usually learn a valuable lesson.

Obviously this is a great series for putting a young girl in the role of doctor. I know my boys don’t think twice about seeing her in that role, and I think that is spectacular. It is a Disney Junior show that we have been watching on TV for some time and have all enjoyed. I fell Disney has hit a home run with this series and I thoroughly enjoy watching it with the kids.

O-Cedar Easy Wring Spin Mop & Bucket System Review

Disclosure: Products were received to help facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

easy_wring_w_boxI hate cleaning. I like a clean house, but cleaning is such a tiresome chore. You would think that I would be smart enough to keep up with technology that could make cleaning easier. So when I got a chance to try the O-Cedar Easy Wring Spin Mop and Bucket System I was pretty excited. I figured we could always use a good mop, but I didn’t really realize just how good it would be.

Our first floor is pretty big and almost all of it is covered in hardwood. Looks great when you are buying a house, but not so wonderful when little boys are spilling stuff all over the place and tracking EVERY KNOWN THING across the floor. Builders have us fooled, but I digress. Basically it can be a real pain in my patootie to wash and clean. I usually use a microfiber mop cover and I find I really have to work very hard to get the floor clean. Of course that is better than the old time mops that you used to squeeze together. They never worked well and left my hands hurting halfway through the whole process.

But O-Cedar Easy Wring Spin Mop and Bucket System is A-W-E-S-O-M-E, Awesome, awesome. I love it so much. You simply fill the bucket with water and whatever cleaning product you are using. I like Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Iowa Pine. Take the mop and dip it in the bucket. Then, and this takes a very tiny learning curve, you put the mop in the wringer and step on the pedal. Make sure you loosely hold the mop handle so that it can spin around in your hand as the wringer spins the mop head. It uses centrifugal force to spin the water out of the mop head. It is like a big salad spinner for your mop!

I, personally, like a drier mop so I stepped on the pedal a few times, but if you like a wetter mop, just spin it only once or twice. The mop glides across the floor and because you can easily rinse the mop head, you don’t get any redistributed dirt. I found that this was the easiest cleaning method I have used to date. Usually I have to stop once I finish the kitchen and eating area because I have to scrub so hard with my old mop. I just get so darn tired that I don’t even get to the dining room and formal living room. Not today. The O-Cedar Easy Wring Spin Mop and Bucket System required very little effort on my part so I just kept on cleaning.

Pros:

  • easy to use
  • bucket is light and glides across floor
  • wrings out mop to preferred dampness
  • provided the best clean I have seen with minimal effort
  • collapsible mop handle

Cons:

  • does not have a scrub attachment, so tougher spots were a little hard to remove.

I would easily recommend the O-Cedar Easy Wring Spin Mop and Bucket System. Even the one Con was not that big of a deal since most of the harder to remove spots were softened by the mop and I simply had to scrape them up with little effort. Keep up with O-Cedar on Facebook and Pinterest so you can learn about the latest cleaning technology.

Kiwi Crate Review

It is funny, I consider myself a fairly creative person, but when it comes to coming up with ideas for things to do with my kids I’m a blank slate. I can’t seem to think up fun and interesting ideas to save my life, or their day. I’m B-O-R-I-N-G. That is where Kiwi Crate comes in. Kiwi Crates are boxes that are delivered right to your door, and they are filled with fun, creative themed ‘crafts’. The crate I had a chance to review was all about percussion instruments and it had two build-it-yourself crafts to keep the kids busy while introducing them to music making. First we got to make hand/foot bells. It was a great little craft that worked through a creative outlet. My youngest son, Lorenzo, helped me make them one day and I was amazed by how much he could do and understand. We needed to decorate our wooden beads which allowed him to show his artistic side (which he gets from me!), then we strung the beads and bells onto elastic band which was provided with our Kiwi Crate. Finally Lorenzo had a chance to make some noise! And he completely enjoyed making that melodic noise all through the house.

The second DIY craft in our Kiwi Crate was a homemade xylophone. Kiwi Crate provided us with all the materials, we simply had to put it together. I really liked this xylophone and while Lorenzo was playing the bells I accompanied him on the xylophone.

Kiwi Crate also included instructions on how to make 6 additional homemade instruments. Kiwi Crate offers several different plans, the one time crate, the 3 months of Kiwi Crates, the 6 months of Kiwi Crates and the full 12 months of Kiwi Crates. I think these would be a great gift for family that lives far away. Or for a parent or grandparent like me that is creatively challenged. It would also be fabulous for the upcoming summer months. Get one for each kid and let them have a bast each month this summer. Make sure you connect with Kiwi Crate on Facebook,  Twitter, and Pinterest.

The information and prize pack have been provided by General Mills through MyBlogSpark. Free products were received  All opinions are my own.

Although I like to make most of our treats (and other foods) from scratch there is always room for a decent baking mix. I know there are plenty of people out there that are super busy and they can’t always prepare their food from scratch. Or, and I’m sure if you are a mother this has happened to you, your child comes to you the night before and tells you they have a party at school the next morning and you need to supply them with a gluten free cupcake, cookie, or other gluten free treat. Yikes! That can really cause some issues. Then there are folks like my parents or my in-laws. They want to have special treats for the boys but they often don’t know what the kids can have or how to find delicious gluten free recipes. My parents don’t even own a computer, so there is no easy way for them to look up recipes and since them themselves are not gluten free, they can’t always keep a large stockpile of gluten free ingredients in their house. That is when a readily available gluten free mix such as Betty Crocker Gluten Free Baking Mixes is wonderful to have around. My parents can easily find this in their grocery store, they don’t need to hunt all over town, and the directions are simply to follow. The perfect mix.

Betty Crocker, General Mills and MyBlogSpark were cool enough to give me a beautiful baking pack that includes an 8 inch square cake/brownie pan and a baking tool set that contains a timer, spatula, rolling pin and baster.  I used the set to make up my version of Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Pretzel Bars. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
