Emmy’s Organics Review and Giveaway

May 15, 2010
The other day I ran into one of my friends at out local organic market. As we talked and walked the store she stopped to pick up a few bags of Emmy’s Organic Macaroons and asked me if I’d tried them yet. I had not, but she told me they were really tasty, and a good snack. They come three raw cookies to a compostable package! (Don’t you just love that?) They are reasonably priced so she thought they were perfect to keep in her bag in case she got hungry.

I bought the Dark Cocoa and the Lemon & Ginger flavors. Can you say “Yummy”? They are extremely moist with really nice, intense flavor. My boys like the Dark Cocoa (so do I), but I think the Lemon & Ginger just might be a summertime favorite. It is very light and refreshing due to the zesty lemon flavor and the ginger gives it a nice zip.

I was so impressed with Emmy’s Organics that I contacted them about doing a review and giveaway. Since I had already tasted their macaroons I didn’t have them send me a sample, but they are going to give one Matthew’s Puzzle reader a bag of Dark Cocoa Macaroons and one bag of Lemon & Ginger Macaroons.

To enter head over to Emmy’s Organics and look at all their delicious products. Then come back here and leave me a message telling me what other Emmy’s Organics products you would like to try.

Botanical Roots Review and Discount

I used to be a big “beauty product” girl. I loved to buy all sorts of make-up and beauty products, but since I have had two children (with a third on the way) I really haven’t had as much time to do my make-up. Instead I prefer to keep my skin in good condition and not rely on make-up to make me look good. I also really like to keep the ingredients of my products as natural as possible. That is where Botanical Roots comes into the story.

Recently Ashlee, of Botanical Roots, sent me a few samples to try for myself. I was lucky enough to try the Sweet Cheeks honey based exfoliating cleanser, Cacao and Sugar Body Polish shower scrub, Berries and Crème Mask and the Moisturizing Facial Elixir.

I loved the Sweet Cheeks. I have known for some time that honey is wonderful for the skin and this cleanser not only smells fantastic (like fresh honey), but it also gently exfoliated my skin. And Ashlee says you can also use it as a skin-softening mask! I have now put it in shower so that my husband can use it too.

The Cacao and Sugar Body Polish smells just like chocolate and makes your skin feel so soft. I love the fact that it is full of shea butter and organic, fair-trade cane sugar. This too, has ended up in our shower so my hubby can enjoy it too.

I think my new favorite is the Moisturizing Facial Elixir. It is an oil, and as Botanical Roots says, it can take a little getting used to but it is amazing. I like how easily it absorbs and how lovely my skin looks after using it.

I am excited to get an opportunity to try the Berries and Crème Mask which contains French pink clay to help detoxify the skin. The Mask is actually a powder that you mix with a little water then apply.

Botanical Roots would like to offer my readers a great discount of 20% off of orders totaling $25 or more, now through September 15,2009. Orders must be placed online though botanical roots shopping cart (www.shop.botanicalrootsonline.com). Please use the discount code Puzzle in the coupon code box when you check out.

looks like a soft lychee

Last year I started making my own jams, preserves and conserves. I had never really made any before, except for one try at making wine jellies as Christmas gifts before I got married. One thing that I really didn’t like about doing it myself is the need for large amounts of sugar to make sure the pectin sets up. Sometimes the jams just tasted sweet instead of like the fruit themselves. And for the amount of fruit necessary it was hard to buy good quality fruit, prepare it and preserve it all in a day or two.

The other day Crofter’s sent me a 4 pack of their new Superfruit spreads. There is the South America, North America, Asia and Europe. The South America is Maqui and Passionfruit blended with Morello Cherries and Red Grapes, the North America contains Wild Blueberries and Cranberries blended with Morello Cherries and Red Gapes, the Asia is raspberries and Yumberries blended with Morello Cherries and Red Grapes, and the Europe is Black Currants and Pomegranates blended with Morello Cherries and Red Grapes. These spreads are fantastic. They are made with organic fruit and cane sugar and are tested for pesticide residue.

What I love about these spreads is the fact that they aren’t overly sweet. They actually have a slight tartness that is extremely pleasant. And although Crofter’s is GFCF and the boys enjoy them on their GFCF toast, Larry and I have both fallen in love with eating them topped on a bagel spread with St. Andre Cheese. This makes for a lovely earthy, sweet, tart combination that really is a wonderful way to start your day, that is, if you can eat dairy.

Would you like to win a 4 pack of Crofter’s Superfruit Spreads? Be one of the first two people to answer the following question correctly and you will be the winner. Please make sure you leave your email address or that it is visible on your blog.

What color is the Yumberry? – First one to answer correctly wins the first set.

What other fruit does the Yumberry look like? – First one to answer correctly wins the second set.

This contest will run until the first two correct answers are posted or until August 5, 2009 11:59 PM EDT.

So much of our daily summer life is spent outside enjoying the sun and water. But all that fun can take a toll on our skin and I find it really important to try to moisturize whenever possible. That’s why I was really excited to try Raw Beauty’s Happy Hour: Hand and Body Lotion in Unforgettable Love. Unforgettable Love is a light blend of summer flowers, musk, lime and citrus with vanilla notes. But best of all it is a light-weight formula that leaves you feeling soft but not oily. Please note that these do contain milk, so if you are GFCF you probably don’t want to use these on your skin.

Janae, of Raw Beauty, also sent a Pucker Up Lip Tint Lip Balm in Red Hot for a special Matthew’s Puzzle reader. The Pucker Up Lip Balms are flavored with natural peach and are made with coconut and sunflower oils. They are Phthalate Free.

Would you like to win a Pucker Up Lip Tint in Red Hot from Raw Beauty? Simply head over to Raw Beauty and take a look around. Then come back to Matthew’s Puzzle and leave me a comment on what else catches your eye. Make sure to leave your email address, or that it is visible on your blog. (This is a mandatory entry)
