Adventures Unlimited at #Brandcation

Brandcation was amazing. I fell in love with the #GulfCoast and Pensacola. The area was beautiful, the shoreline pristine and the water blue. But what really  drew me in was the day we spent on the Coldwater Creek with Adventures Unlimited.

I had never been ziplining before and although I was very excited I was also a bit frightened. The idea of zipping over a creek at 35 miles per hour really got my heart going. But the folks at Adventures Unlimited were kind, friendly and knowledgeable. My group (my condo roommates) were the first group out and we zipped with guides, Kevin and Jacques. It was only Jacques’ second day on the job, but you wouldn’t know it. He was a real pro. He even joked with me when after I ran the first real zip line and I was scared to death, and I ended up calling him honey. He said that was just fine. Flirt! We did 7 runs and by the time we reached the last one, a 900 foot run from 65 feet in the air, I was begging to go again! I could have done that all day.

After a box lunch, also provided by Adventures Unlimited, of deli sandwiches, soda, water, chips, cookies and the best Cara Cara oranges I have ever tasted (we were in Florida of course), we headed down the Coldwater Creek for a leisurely tubing ride. Of course I can’t do leisurely so my friend Paula of Frosted Fingers, and I decided to race down the river. We certainly got a workout as she and I “paddled” almost the entire 3+ miles. We were the first ones back. I’m sure that deserved some sort of trophy.

I truly loved Adventures Unlimited. The grounds are huge. They have private and group cabins, camping sites, and the Schoolhouse Inn (a restored school house turned inn with author themed rooms. Kevin’s favorite is the Dr. Seuss room). You can tube, canoe or kayak on the river, go ziplining, or try a ropes course. The place is just plain fun!

Thanks to Adventures Unlimited for a great Saturday on the #GulfCoast!

I was given this trip for free but all opinions are my own.

Back from Brandcation

I finally made it back from Brandcation. I say “finally” because, although Brandcation was wonderful, 3 of my 4 flights this weekend were delayed. I walked in the door at 1:40 AM Monday morning. Needless to say I was a kind of useless yesterday.

But Brandcation on the Pensacola Gulf Coast of Florida was WONDERFUL! From the nice folks at the airport – one actually search out my party to return a lost pair of sunglasses (true story), to the beautiful beaches, the zip lining at Adventures Unlimited, and the Supermoon and stargazing on the beach, I could not have asked for a better inaugural blog conference experience.

Friday we spent some time getting to know each other and building team spirit by playing Blogger Olympics on the Portofino Island Resort beach. We had sandcastle building contests (had to create the White House!), Hula Hoop battles (my teammate won!), a scavenger hunt, water races and carry-a-beachball-between your legs races (yes, I actually won that one). Then we all headed out for a yummy dinner at Surf Burger. The staff was wonderful and friendly. I indulged in their signature Surf Burger and fries, and although I did not try one of their Bushwackers (a creamy concoction made with cream of coconut, Kahlua, black rum, creme de cacao and vanilla ice cream) I heard from other attendees they were scrumptious. We finally made it back to the condo to pour over the wonderful and amazing items donated by Brandcation sponsors. I can’t wait to tell you all about the fantastic items we received. (I just scarfed down my package of Lush Nuts Handcrafted Sweetly Coated Peanuts in Original, while I was writing this.) Then it was off to bed. I couldn’t sleep. It was just too exciting.

Saturday we were up bright and early for possibly the best day ever (Phineas and Ferb, anyone?). We took a short ride to Adventures Unlimited in Milton, Florida, for a full day of zip lining and tubing. I can not even begin to describe this day. The folks at Adventures Unlimited we friendly and helpful (they even patched up one of my fellow tubers who hurt her toe) and just plain fun. We went zip lining first, our guides were Kevin and Jacques – two “Cajun boys” as the lady at the front desk told me. We could not have had better guides. They kept us entertained with knowledge of the area and the different sights on Adventures Unlimited land. There happens to be an historic cemetery and  an old school house turned inn on the property. But truly the best part of the trip was the zip lining. I will go into this great adventure in another post, but know that any sensory seekers out there would love to drop 65 feet over the course of a 900 foot run at 35 miles per hour! I couldn’t get enough. We followed that adventure up with a box lunch (best oranges ever!!) provided by Adventures Unlimited, then a 3 hour tubing ride down the gentle Coldwater Creek. Relaxing and Refreshing. Once we made it back to the condos we had enough time to eat and get ready to go stargazing (and Supermoon gazing) with the local astronomers group. We spent an hour or so with the group checking out the stars, the Supermoon, Jupiter and Saturn. It was a beautiful night on the beach. Our friend Dewey was so full of knowledge (and he was pretty funny too) about the night sky. He taught us a lot and made the experience amazing.

Sunday was our last day there but it was still full of fun. While my fellow Brandcationers went on a fabulous dolphin cruise, I watched several military personal injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, along with other amputees, participate in a swimming race in the water outside my window. These folks were so inspirational, and although I get deathly ill from boat rides and had to miss the dolphin cruise, I feel I had an opportunity to see something incredible.

The Gulf Coast is in full swing and would be a wonderful vacation spot. I was very impressed with the area, the amount of exciting things to do, and the hospitality. Drop everything and make your reservation today. Stay Well.

I was given these products for free, but opinions are my own.

If You Are Reading This, Then I Am At Brandcation!

This morning I boarded a plane bound for Pensacola, Florida to take part in my very first blogging event. I decided to join these wonderful bloggers in hopes of learning from them how to be a better blogger, how to write more interesting content and how to bring you more dynamic reviews and giveaways. I’ve never been to a blogging conference and I think that #Brandcation may just be the perfect way to start. It is a more intimate blogging experience with no more than 32 bloggers participating. The idea is to be able to really engage with each other, make some friends (and in the blogging world that is very important), learn best practices in an informal manner, and bond over fun and exciting situations.

This particular #Brandcation is also highlighting the wonderful #GulfCoast. With the BP oil leak the #GulfCoast was hit pretty hard, and #Brandcation wants to show us, and the world, that the Florida #GulfCoast is back in full swing. I’m super excited to try out all that Pensacola and the #GulfCoast have to offer. We will be participating in some amazing adventures, including zip lining and tubing, courtesy of Adventures Unlimited. I’ve enjoyed a little tubing in my time, but this will be a zip lining first. I’m both exhilarated and frightened, but I’m expecting the best from such beautiful surroundings . I can’t wait to tell you all about this experience and maybe entice you to try it out with your families. I’m guessing our sensory seekers will LOVE it!

The #Brandcation planners have everything arranged for us, including rooms at the Portofino Island Condos, dinners at famous beach-side restaurants, the fun filled day at Adventures Unlimited, stargazing with an astronomy club on the beach (I’m very excited about this one too!), and a dolphin cruise. Wow! I’m sure to be completely wiped out by the end.

I’d like to take a moment to thank our #Brandcation sponsors for making this blogging experience happen, and truly making it a success.

So stay tuned for updates on my fun and fabulous weekend in Florida! Stay Well.

Angela’s Crafts Giveaway! – Closed

giveaway soap

I’m a sucker for a great soap. I think it is because no matter your size, hair color, or skin type, a well scented, luxurious soap can make you feel special. So for me, if I’m not having a great day, and am craving a little pick me up, I can use one of my lovely soaps and feel beautifully scented and pampered.

Speaking of lovely soaps, this past week I received a bar of Woodbury soap from Angela’s Crafts’ new line of Goat Milk soaps. Angela selected the Woodbury scent for me and I think she must have been truly inspired because the base fragrance in it is grapefruit! I adore grapefruit (it happens to also be my favorite flavor of Jelly Beans!). In addition to the grapefruit, Woodbury contains notes of sweet berries and earthy woods, which means it isn’t too sweet, but still has a feminine quality . I was planning on keeping the soap in our powder room where it could gently scent the room, while inspiring the kids to wash their hands, as they LOVE bar soaps, but I realized I tend to wash my hands more often at our kitchen sink. So I’ve placed it on a beautiful silver soap dish for me to use multiple times a day. My little treat to myself.

One of the reasons I love Angela’s Crafts’ soaps are that they are made without parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, unnatural preservatives and petroleum products! I can’t abide petroleum products. And although the Goats Milk line, like the soap I reviewed,   is not Vegan, she does offer many Vegan options too. From the ingredient list it appears as if they are gluten free – mine contains:

  • olive oil
  • coconut oil
  • water
  • sodium hydroxide
  • organic palm oil
  • soy oil
  • fresh goat milk
  • sunflower oil
  • shea butter
  • fragrance
  • may also contain tocopherols (natural vitamin e) and stearic acid (vegetable source)

Angela has kindly offered a lovely giveaway. It includes:

  •  (1) 3.5 oz (approx. wt) bar of handmade all-natural vegan soap – scent of winners choice including unscented.
  • (1) single use packet of Sweet Pea Bath Salt
  • (1) single use packet of Lilac Bath Milk
  • (1) hand-knit 100% Pima Cotton Facecloth
  • (1) reusable canvas mini-tote bag

To enter the giveaway simple head over to Angela’s Crafts and leave me a comment here telling me which scent you would like to try. For additional chances to win you can do any of the following, but for each item you do, remember to leave me a comment with the proper link. Please leave your email address so that I can contact the winner.
