This is the positive results showing my son probably has P.A.N.D.A.S. – Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated with Streptoccal Infection.
Stacy, that is a fine question. We just don’t know yet. There are very few treatments for PANDAS, so I suspect this may just be a recurring problem every time he is exposed to Strep.
Did you think he would test positive? I hope that this helps you get your healing plan together for him now that you know more about one of the root causes. Kelly recently posted..Wordless Wednesday {Cherry Tree}
Kelly, I was pretty naive and really did not think he had PANDAS. With all the research I do you would think I would have suspected it, but I didn’t. He never had the throat infection, or he never complained about it. It can be very stealth and hard to detect.
Hi
Im a Mom of a 6 year old son that is non verbal. Hi Maryann
I would love to know which specific test you have done to rule out
Pandas. I have been down the road with tests and even stem cells.
The lights havent turned on yet but getting there! thanks, Stacey
Hi Stacey,
Our doctor ran an ASO and it was positive. It doesn’t mean PANDAS by itse
F, but he didn’t show any sort of strep infection and he had a reoccurrence of OCD behaviors, Stims and emotional behavior which coupled with thhe positive test points to PANDAS. We are still waiting for other blood work to be sure, but it looks like PANDAS.
Hi Maryann,
thanks for getting back to me . what is an aso test?
my son stims so much and has ocd. im doing homeopathy and biomeds . we have been working for the past 4 yrs. I use to have a DAN doctor but got so expensive and we werent getting anywhere but he has been responding to homeopathy. Stacey recently posted..30Day Shred
Wow, so where do you go from here, are there other ways to help him based on this diagnosis? Tiff @ Babes and Kids recently posted..Wordless Wednesday – Sunshine
There are ways, none are great. The most effective is an intravenous gamma globulin transfer, but he is only 7 and I am not sure he will sit for IV, as he has a hard time with a simple blood draw and the IV would take longer.
I hope and pray that you will find the right treatment option and that he will cooperate. It is hard on everyone when their child is sick, but something chronic, I imagine, is much worse… Kathryn recently posted..Wordless Wednesday: Easter!!!
Naive is not a word I would use to describe you at all. You are strong and amazing and you will lead him through this.

Marianna, thank you. I know you have heard me discuss all this stuff for so long. I just have to get some info and do some research. This does explain a lot, but I can’t believe I missed it. Oh, weel, I’m glad the doc decided to test for it while we were getting blood work done, or we would still be in the dark.
Now that you know what your are dealing with, I hope that you will be able to get your son feeling a bit better! Hugs!! Henrietta recently posted..{almost} Wordless Wednesday – Penny the Hen
Iyes, it really does, but it also may answer some too. This could explain his sudden relapse into flapping and chewing, which we had gotten rid of. It could also explain why about a yr ago he was put on antibiotics and a steroid and he improved dramatically. I always thought it was the anti inflammatory properties of the steroid, but I could have been the antibiotic killing a strep infection. Or it could have been both!
You know, I’m OK in a way. It surprised me since I didn’t expect him to have it. Many kids on the spectrum do, so I’m sort of familiar with it, but not really. As I’m researching it I realize I have some things already in my home supplement arsenal that can help him so I think we will figure it out. It appears as if this is a long term problem, not one that can be easily fixed. But it is one more clue to this crazy puzzle.
How scary! My 3rd graders class constantly pass around strep because parents refuse to take time off and keep them home and it makes me SO angry. I get thaqt people have to work, I do too and go to college full time but refuse to send my daughter to school with strep and other infections its just not fair to other kids and their parents. If my daughter had PANDAS she would constantly be very bad 🙁 Candace recently posted..Wordless Wednesday – Hoppy Easter

Poor baby 🙁 I wonder if he will now be more susceptible to any strep recurrence. I know that this is probably hard for you to handle as any ‘positive’ on medical diagnoses is a rough awakening. I really hope you have a great doctor and support group to help work through the effects it is having on your son. At least you know that his relapses weren’t the cause of anything in your error and you can now take proactive steps in working though this with him, hopefully avoiding future struggles and tears. *HUGS*
Poor guy. The one good thing is you now have a definitive answer so you can move forward. Hopefully it won’t be a recurring problem. Amy recently posted..My Job Chart ~ Helping Kids Learn Responsibility

Stacey, ASO is a strep titre test. I’ve done some homeopathy but it hasn’t been the aha thing for us.
I hope this helps provide answers <3
