As some of you know I am a consultant for NYR Organic beauty care products. We recently updated our catalog and we now how Tea Tree oil available. I was pretty impressed with its most common uses, so I thought I’d pass that info on to you. Tea Tree oil is commonly used for its anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Sound familiar? Yep, these are the same three things that seem to plague ASD kids.

Apparently Tea Tree oil is good for colds and flu, especially when used in steam inhalation. So that sounds like you could heat up a bowl of water and add a few drops of Tea Tree oil then inhale the vapors. I would start low and increase as needed to see how you tolerate the strong scent.

Tea Tree oil can also be used to treat athlete’s foot and ring worm by applying it to the infected area. You can disinfect a cut or soothe a bug bite by applying it directly to the spot. It does not sting. I actually used it directly on a pimple.

And Tea Tree oil can be mixed with water and alcohol and used as a mouthwash. It will treat bad breath, mouth ulcers and gum infections. You can apply it neat to warts. It may also be effective in treating cold sores and other types of herpes.

It is considered non-toxic externally, and rarely causes skin sensitization.

  1. I've been using Tea Tree oil for years and you can use it for everything! You can even use it as an anti bacterial spray.

  2. That is a great idea Diane. I added it to my "deodorant" – a mix of baking soda and corn starch, then I put a few drops of tea tree oil in and shake it all up. I use a puff to apply.

  3. You can also use it as a lice preventive measure. I have a separate container for the kids soap and add a few drops of tea tree oil to it. If you look at all of the natural lice preventive shampoos, one of the main ingredients is tea tree oil. You just have to make sure the soap doesn't get in their eyes, it will sting.
