Vertigo update

So I saw the neurologist yesterday and he dose not feel as if I have any neurological issues! That is very good news. He is ordering an MRI just in case but feels strongly that it will come back negative. He noticed that I sigh a lot, which I already knew. It is related to my asthma and is very typical when you have asthma. Well it can also make you hyperventilate and he feels that may be my issue. He also thinks there could be some migraines playing a part, but not a substantial part. So he wants me to do some things to de-stress. He is suggesting citalopram which is an anti-anxiety drug. I’m not loving this idea.

My acupuncturist also feels it is stress induced but has a different path for healing. I have opted, at least right now, to use the acupuncturist’s ideas and work on trying not to hyperventilate. I am also trying to de-stress in more natural ways. If this doesn’t work then I will try the drugs, but I hate to use drugs for anything unless absolutely necessary.

  2. You have vertigo issues? Could it be Meniere’s? If so, I have a friend who suffered from that a couple of years ago and was told by someone to take slow-release niacin. It worked for her. I told another woman who had the same type of problem and she told me she took some when she felt it “coming on” and it stopped it. Don’t know if it would work for you or not. Just thought I would share.

  6. That’s good news that the neurologist doesn’t think you have neuro issues but that still is frustrating that you don’t have answers as to what is causing your vertigo. 🙁

  15. It’s certainly worth at least a shot of going the natural route before trying the meds. Good luck.

  16. My stepmom just found out she has a form of vertigo. As far as the medicine thing it was pretty much trial and error for her :/ some made her so sick. Finally, last week after being hospitalized for 4 days they’ve figured out how to fix it for her. At least you got some good news on your end. Natural route is definitely the better way

  20. omy gosh my heart goes out to you. I had vertigo for a few weeks and went to a sports massage therapist and after an hour long rub down and relaxing I felt so much better. and it finally went away in a few days . I had to switch from right to left and left to right again every 10 minutes when I laid down but it was worth it. Hope you too will find a way to cure this

  21. Perhaps some balm teas and relaxation techniques will help. Lemon balm and Bee Balm are plentiful. If you like Earl Grey, you would probably like them, I forget which one , but one of them is used in it.

  24. I am so glad to hear it is not a neurological issue! I was wondering if it might be stress related. Whatever the cause, I hope you find some relief very soon. My head spins at the onset of many of my migraines, so I know what a miserable feeling that must be for you.

  28. Hugs, Maryann — my best friend is going though the exact same thing right now, and after trying so much, ended up using the anti-anxiety meds. She too didn’t want to have to take them, but she is doing much better now. I hope you’re more successful in being able to counter act it in natural ways.
